This surely is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe: 192 which the truthful spirit has carried down 193 Upon your heart that you may be of the warners 194 In plain Arabic language. 195 Truly, it is in the Books of the ancients. 196 Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of Israel knew about this? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 they would still not have believed in it. 199 Thus it passes through the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are not aware, 202 and then they will exclaim, "Could we have a respite?" 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 But hast thou ever considered [this]: If We do allow them to enjoy [this life] for some years, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 So of what benefit will be the comforts that they were using? 207 Never have We destroyed a habitation till We had sent admonishers to them 208 To advise; and We never oppress. 209 The devils did not bring it down. 210 it behoves them not, neither are they able. 211 Lo! verily they are banished from the hearing. 212 So do not call on any deity besides God, lest you incur His punishment. 213 And warn your nearest relations, 214 And lower thy wing (in kindness) unto those believers who follow thee. 215 If they disobey you, say: 'I am quit of what you do' 216 Put your trust in the Almighty, the Most Merciful, 217 Who sees you when you stand up. 218 and when thou turnest about among those who bow. 219 He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every forgerer steeped in sin, 222 Who listens to you (for spreading rumours); but most of them are liars. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 Do you not see that they wander about in every valley 225 and preaching what they themselves never practice. 226 Except those who believed and did good deeds, and profusely remembered Allah, and took revenge after they had been wronged*; and soon the unjust will come to know upon which side they will be overturned**. (* The Muslim poets who praise Allah and the Prophet. ** The disbelievers will be punished.) 227
