The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We will now call the guards! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
