Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
