The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
