Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 The night as it advances, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
