He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
