Thus did We deliver the Children of Israel from the humiliating chastisement, 30 from Pharaoh who was most prominent among the prodigals. 31 and We chose them, out of a knowledge, above all beings, 32 And We vouchsafed unto them signs wherein was a manifest favour. 33 Verily, these (Quraish) people are saying: 34 There is naught but our first death and we shall not be raised again. 35 Bring back our fathers, if ye speak the truth! 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals. 37 We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, out of play. 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 Indeed the Day of Decision is the appointment for all of them. 40 The Day when Maulan (a near relative) cannot avail Maulan (a near relative) in aught, and no help can they receive, 41 Save those on whom Allah will have mercy. Verily He! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 42
