The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
