The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
