The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the heaven and the night-comer 1 How will you comprehend what the night star is? 2 The piercing star! 3 There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. 4 Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created. 5 He has been created from an ejected drop of fluid 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Surely He is able to bring him back 8 On a Day whereon secrets shall be out. 9 (Man) will have no power, and no helper. 10 By the Firmament which returns (in its round), 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 It is surely a decisive utterance; 13 and is not to be taken lightly. 14 Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)). 15 And I secretly plan. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
