The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed, 2 and by [the clouds] that swim serenely and 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 Then those who regulate the affair. 5 The day the convulsive first blast shatters convulsively 6 and will be followed by the second one, 7 On that Day will [men's] hearts be throbbing, 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? 10 after we have become bones and dust?" 11 They say, "That, then, would be a losing return." 12 But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, 13 So they will immediately be in an open plain. 14 Has not there come to you the story of Musa? 15 His Lord called to him in the Sacred Valley of Towa, 16 "Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds: 17 Then say thou: wouldst thou to be purified? 18 Then I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him). 19 So Moosa showed him a magnificent sign. 20 but he cried lies, and rebelled, 21 Then he turned away, deliberating, 22 and gathered his people together 23 Saying: "I am your lord, most high", 24 Wherefore Allah laid hold of him with the punishment of the Hereafter and of the present. 25 In this there is a lesson for those who have fear of God. 26
