Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
