Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
