He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
