The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
