A crowd of earlier generations 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
