The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
