The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 purify your garments; 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
