Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 raised couches, 13 And cups put in place 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
