He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
