The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
