The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
