He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is also fearful, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure of germination 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
