He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
