He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
