۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious. 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 On couches facing one another; 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Verily, this - this indeed - is the triumph supreme!" 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 which We have made as a torment for the unjust? 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 though We had sent among them warners. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
