AND THEY will ask thee about the Two-Horned One. Say: "I will convey unto you something by which he ought to be remembered." 83 Surely We established him in the land and granted him means of access to every thing. 84 He therefore pursued a purpose. 85 to the West where he found the sun setting into a warm source (spring) of water and a people living near by. We asked him, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, you may punish them or treat them with kindness?" 86 He said: As for him who doeth wrong, we shall punish him, and then he will be brought back unto his Lord, Who will punish him with awful punishment! 87 but whoever believes and does good works shall have a good reward and We shall facilitate his matter by Our command." 88 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no covering protection against the sun. 90 So (it was). And We knew all concerning him. 91 Then he followed a road 92 Till, when he came between the two mountains, he found upon their hither side a folk that scarce could understand a saying. 93 They said: O Zul-Qarnain verily Yajuj and Majuj are working corruption in the land; shall we then pay thee tribute on condition that thou place between us and them a barrier! 94 He said: "(The power) in which my Lord has established me is better (than tribute): Help me therefore with strength (and labour): I will erect a strong barrier between you and them: 95 Bring me ingots of iron!" Then, after he had [piled up the iron and] filled the gap between the two mountain-sides, he said: "[Light a fire and] ply your bellows!" At length, when he had made it [glow like] fire, he commanded: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour upon it." 96 Such was the rampart that Gog and Magog could not scale, nor could they pierce it. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass He will make it level with the ground, and the promise of my Lord is ever true. 98 ۞ On that Day, We shall let them surge against each other like waves and then the Trumpet will be blown and We shall gather them all together. 99 And on that Day We shall present Hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 those whose eyes had been veiled against any remembrance of Me because they could not bear to listen [to the voice of truth]! 101
