and We delivered the Children of Israel from the humbling chastisement, 30 Inflicted by Pharaoh, for he was arrogant (even) among inordinate transgressors. 31 And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds. 32 And We vouchsafed unto them signs wherein was a manifest favour. 33 These people say, 34 There is naught but our first death and we shall not be raised again. 35 “Therefore bring back our forefathers, if you are truthful!” 36 Are these better or the people of Tubba and those who went before them? We destroyed them for they were a criminal people. 37 And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play, 38 We created them in nothing else except the truth. But most do not know. 39 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] is the term appointed for all of them: 40 the Day when a friend shall be of no avail to his friend nor shall they be helped, 41 Except him on whom Allah has Mercy. Verily, He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 42
