Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
