Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 and couches raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
