In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
