The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
