The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and serried acacias, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virginal, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those on the right hand; 38
