The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
