The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
