Al-Hijjr 3 of 6
Indeed We created man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud. 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 Recall when your Lord said to the angels: "I will indeed bring into being a human being out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud. 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 Therefore all the angels, each and every one of them, fell prostrate. 30 save Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 until the day of a known time." 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 except Your sincere servants". 40 Allah said: "Here is the path that leads straight to Me. 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 And surely Hell is the promised place of them all: 43 with seven gates leading into it, each gate receiving its allotted share of sinners. 44

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
