The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great news - 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
