He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
