The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And spreading shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
