The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 on raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
