Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And the night when it departs. 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
