'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
