The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
