These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
