Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 He said, "It will be so! Your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me for I created you when you were nothing before.'" 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 We commanded John, Zachariah's son, to follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood. 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
