AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 And the jinn, We had created them afore of the fire of the scroching wind. 27 When your Lord said to the angels: 'See, I am creating a mortal from clay of molded mud. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 "How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?" 33 God said, "Then get out of here; for you are accursed, 34 And verily on thee shall be the curse till the Day of Requital. 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 [Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved 37 until the day of a known time." 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 He (Allah) said: 'This is for Me the Right Path 41 over My servants thou shalt have no authority, except those that follow thee, 42 And indeed hell is the promise for all of them. 43 It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion. 44
