Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
