The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
