The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning. 1 Verily We! We created man from a sperm of mixtures, that We might prove him, wherefore We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 and their reward for being patient will be a Garden and silk [clothing]. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 therein a fountain whose name is called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
