They are waiting for nothing except a single Cry, after which there will be no second Cry. 15 They say: "Our Lord! Hasten to us Qittana (i.e. our Record of good and bad deeds so that we see it) before the Day of Reckoning!" 16 Bear with their words patiently. Remember Our servant David, a man of strength who always turned to Us: 17 [and for this,] behold, We caused the mountains to join him in extolling Our limitless glory at eventide and at sunrise, 18 and the birds, duly mustered, every one to him reverting; 19 And We made his dominion strong and vouchsafed him wisdom and decisive speech. 20 ۞ And did the news of the two disputants reach you? When they scaled over the wall into Dawud’s mosque. 21 when they entered upon David, and he took fright at them; and they said, 'Fear not; two disputants we are -- one of us has injured the other; so judge between us justly, and transgress not, and guide us to the right path.' 22 Verily, this my brother (in religion) has ninety nine ewes, while I have (only) one ewe, and he says: "Hand it over to me, and he overpowered me in speech." 23 Da-ud said: assuredly he hath wronged thee in demanding thine ewe in addition to his ewes, and verily many of the partners oppress each other save such as believe and work righteous works, and few are they. And Da-ud imagined that We had tried him; so he asked forgiveness of his Lord, and he fell down bowing and turned in penitence. ۩ 24 So We forgave him that; and verily for him is an approach with us, and a happy retreat. 25 “O Dawud! We have indeed appointed you as a Viceroy in the earth, therefore judge between mankind with the truth, and do not follow desire for it will lead you astray from Allah’s path; indeed for those who stray away from Allah’s path is a severe punishment, because they forgot the Day of Reckoning.” 26
