The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 and by the Book in lines 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
